Default How to remove dowel pin from the block?

The pin that holds the pilot bearing down got crushed down a bit, it's probably half has high as a regular 'good' one. How can I get this thing out to replace it?

use a torch, heat up around the dowel, not the dowel itself, expand the block with heat.. keep heat away from the dowel. it will either fall out all by itself, or need your assistance with vice grips.

If memory serves, it's actually a roll pin, isn't it? If so, here is one creative approach...

The pilot bearing is the sealed bearing that fits in the rear end of the crank where the driveshaft fits in.
I am guessing that you mean the front main bearing pin. It does not have to stick out much – just enough that the bearing does not rotate. It’s a roll pin (made of roller sheetmetal) – you should be able to coax it out with a pliers – you may need a new one if it gets buggered up!

Chris, do you have a part # for this roll pin? I have never been able to find it.

Yes, that's what I meant. Have you ever heard of one not being tall enough and spinning a bearing? Here is a pic

Where did you get that part number? It appears to be an actual dowel pin (solid) rather than the roll pin you are looking for. It's hard to tell from the picture if it is too low (it does look low though) -- have you tried putting the bearing in there and seeing if the pin still feels like it is providing a mechanical lock?

Does look like it needs replacing. Going to take a little bit of work to get that out.
Sorry but nothing helpful. GL.

It's all I was able to find. If I took it to a machine shop it would still work, right?
I did put a bearing in there and felt nothing lock it down, but it doesn't want to spin either. It's too short to get a real grip on it with pliers of any sort.

If it were in my shop I would tack weld (Tig) a piece of steel to it and pull it out.
I don’t think there is a part number – its just standard roll pin material – any good fastener place will have it.

If you buy a new block from Porsche the roll pin comes free with it…..

I'd rather just ask here than start a new thread...

Lindsey sent this in my headgasket kit, do you think it is ok to use?

Did you get the roll pin out?

Personally I would not use that nut.
