won at local autox
who says 951s are no good for autoX? i won my class by 2 seconds. im running in SM2 because of my chips & higher than stock boost. its a pretty free class & im nowhere near the preparation limits. i was 2 seconds ahead of a stripped CRX, and 4 seconds ahead of a very nicely prepared triumph(okay so it was a small class). i also had the best time out of the 20 cars there, the only thing faster was a shifter kart. im really excited about the season now & cant wait to see how i do against some more competition at the bigger venues.

Good Job Peter!
I'm running in SM2 as well. I managed 2nd out of 5 cars. Overall about the same. 24 out of 100. The car is not stripped at all. The full AC will come in handy this summer.
Lots of room for improvment for both driver and car. This year I added a used set of Hoosiers that really made a difference.

Race Car
Twenty cars attending the autocross must be so much fun. Here in our SCCA region it's not unusual to see 230+ cars competing. Too many cars...and not even CLOSE to enough seat time.
How many runs did you get? Way to go!

G96,
I quit running with the SFR SCCA for just that reason. And the number is frequently close to 300. 3 runs max. They are a machine when it comes to running that many cars thru in one day. But what a long day. The Fresno and Sacramento chapters of the SCCA are both much more reasonable. And then because we are Porsche, we have all the same PCA clubs. Sac, Fresno, GGR and more all put on very low volume AX with no membership required. If you throw in AAX (American Autocross) and others out there, it makes it hard to find a weekend that you couldn't go autocrossing..
It's going to be a busy year.

ive been to autocrosses in the houston area and here around lubbock, so ive seen it both ways. we only get one autox a month, but 9 runs per event so i guess the seat time evens out. 9 runs at one event is great, it really lets you experiment and try different ways of attacking the course. small fields also mean you get to know everybody real fast. the downside is its easy to get the big fish in a small pond mentality. with bigger fields you get a bigger variety of cars and drivers and its easier to see where you really stand, and i miss being able to walk around

jack, the next event is in the middle of april here, in the lubbock area, but the venue isnt certain yet. right now its tentatively scheduled for doloca motorplex, which is a little north of brownfield. if its not there it will probably be at the lubbock fairgrounds. other events are scattered up around amarillo. i think all the info you'll need can be found here, west texas SCCA , under the next event and schedule headings. come on out, its always great to see more porsches.

all you really need is about 30 bucks, its a little cheaper if you tell them its your first time, and cheaper if you run 3 or 6 instead of 9 runs. loaner helmets are available but youll probably have to share one. i always bring some water and you might wanna bring something to eat too, since it can be an all day thing. i also bring a tire pressure gauge.
you have to pass a visual safety inspection, the main points are secure battery(a given in a 928), good throttle return spring, and interior loose items removed(including floor mats).
you can do anything to your exhaust from the cat back and remain in stock classes, more than that will probably land you in street prepared.

loaner helmets are nasty/sweaty/ill-fitting... get one, $120-150ish
you won't have issues w/ cat stuff likely. it's a bit underhanded to be not admitting your mods (in the sense that, it gives you more power and faster spool, etc) but it's JUST a cat pipe, it's not like you are hiding a cheater turbo or a 3.0L or something
