Where do I put my Autothority Chips?
Feeling pretty stoopid here.....
I bought some new chips from a guy I know in my local club. I have always known that the chips live under the wooden board in the footwell. I've just taken my board off, delved around in the maze of wires under there and found what I think are the two boxes where the chips live.
They are both silver, about 6" square and screwed to the back of some metal mounting brackets, behnd the wooden board.
My questions. Are these the boxes? How do I open them up?
It looks like I have to prize apart some metal tabs, not unscrew some nice screws that will be easy to put back together.
Can anyone confirm I am right before I start bending these metal tabs apart? I'm doing a trackday at Silverstone Grand Prix circuit here in the UK on Friday and would love to have the extra boost these chips should give me.
Thanks

Yup, those are the boxes. Yes you'll have to pry up the taps gently. if you do a search on the topic you'll probably find detailed instructions from someone like Danno.

Here are a few links to help you out

First disconnect battery. After that remove DME & KLR boxes.Follow the instructions V Shah gave.Be sure to ground yourself.Avoid static cloths during chip change ! For a first timer it's max 1 hour job.

Thanks guys,
Once I found those links I was quite happy to bend back the tabs
The only problem was, with the new chip installed on the KLR I cannot now close up 'the book' of circuit boards.
There is a large red capacitor (I think) on the opposite board to the new chip that interferes and won't allow it to close when the chip is in properly (with the notch aligned)
If I put the chip in the wrong way round it closes ok????? Don't worry I didnt start the car like this!!!
The car runs great with the new chip - now I have to figure a way to tidily reinstall it into its case. I may try to find an electrician to replace that capacitor with a smaller one.
Am I the only one with this big capactor? 1989 951
Thanks again
Paul

I'm confused?! Both the factory chips and they Autothority chips are the EXACT same chip therefore they are the exact same size. Towards the back there are 2 black clips that hold the two circuit boards together did you push the clips back into place? Because with out the clips push down the cover on the back end of the computer boxes will not fit.(opposite end of the big plug on the top where they are plugged into)

Ah,
I don't think these are Autothority after all. They were custom burned for the previous owner on a rolling road by a well known 944 Tuner here in the UK.
The chips are piggy back mounted on a very small PCB, hence when I fold my circuit board back together it just touches the capacitor on the other side so I cannot fold it completely. I'll post a pic later.
Ultimately I shall try to get an electrician to replace that capacitor. or now I will attach my KLR to the back of the wooden board in the 'open' position.
Not ideal but it will do for now.
Thanks for the advice guys <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

The boxes are sealed to keep out moisture / rubbish / bugs etc. from rapidly destroying the innards. I would really recommend you try to find a way of solving the closure problem before having the car outside for too long (since I'm a brit also, I know how much rain you get ).
