Post 3L buildown... to 2.5L

Does anybody know what would be involved in making a 3L into a 2.5L, this is based on an S2 block. Is it even possible? I am trying to reclass our GT1 3L turbo into GT3 for PCA club racing.

Either that or would anybody be looking for a 3L turbo?

I imagine you could sleeve the block, but for GT3 you can have a 2.7...

But after you multiply by 1.3 for the turbo it will put you over 3.4L (3.51L)... GT1 baby. These cars can be competitive in GT1, especialy with a 3L turbo (3.9L eq) and the right driver... but talk about a fast crowd.

GT3 is up to 3.4L, over 3.4L NA is GT2, over 3.4L turbo is GT1.

hi Sloth,

i too am doing just this same conversion. it requires a 2.5 crank, sleeves and pistons to achieve the required 2.6 litres of displacement.
i have little doubt as to the effectiveness of a 16 valve 2.6 turbo motor.
as a suggestion... import drag race tuners have lots more experience with multi-valve dual cam engine performance...not to mention vast turbo knowledge. as always,it's critical to find a "read deal" tuner and not some poser. we've determined that 470 hp at the motor is very realistic using the 16 valve head.

good luck!

I am sure that anything could be done. The engine is currently an 8v 3L turbo, it is being rebuilt and I am curious to know if it could be dropped to a 2.5L using the same head and block.

If we decide to just sell the 3L and start anew I will certainly post details here. It is a sweet motor.

Quick'44

I only see a 3L crank for $1200. Please let me know if there really is a motor for 1200.

why don't you just buy a new short block and head? that seems like the best option. I bet you can get a good chunk of change for your old parts

That is probably the easiest thing to do. I just wanted to hear the possibilities.

When we figure something out I will have to post information on the 3L should anybody be interested in it.

The best for power would be to de-stroke and keep the bore as large as possible. We can de-stroke a 2.5 liter quite far actually!
