I got LSD now what
Turns out my 88 951 has option code 220 which is a Limited Slip Diff. Only problem is, I don't know what good it is. I sure as hell do not develop wheel spinning power from a stop, so why does it matter if I have LSD. Are there some other benefits ? Car probably weighs more than an open diff. So what good is it on a stock 951.
All opinions appreciated. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Under hard launches where your wheels would spin, or when coming out of a corner with your foot down is where you would find the biggest advantage. Also if it were raining, and your wheels start to spin (or try to) the LSD would be much safer than an LSD (better control). Wish I had LSD

Actually, the LSD is a burden..... it is heavy, dangerous and will ultimately make your car slower and unpredictable in turns.
As a "friend" i will come swap it out for you with an open diff.........FREE of charge!!
hehehe........j/k.........well, actually, i will swap it out for free.
Do a search on a search engine(google.com) for "limited slip differential" and read up on them, you will be happy you have it......they should have been standard, IMHO.

Kind of like 60's LSD. Makes brains unpredictable.

LSD makes a hell of alot of a diffrence, especially when accelerating out of a corner. LSD coupled with bigger sway bars, feels like a new car. LSD should have been standard. I have a non LSD and an LSD tranny on ebay...........

Thanks guys, now I am going to try and accelerate hard out of a turn and see how it feels. Not much rain around here in New Mexico I am afraid. Loose gravel will have to do.

My car does not have LSD, but boy I sure wish that it did.
I did a DE once where it was raining the first day and dry the next.
On the rainy day I was the slowest car in the run group due to my inability to apply throttle when exiting a turn. Every corner saw a bit of rear end movement. I was even passed by a four door sedan!! That was a real white knuckled experience for me.
On the sunny day I was one of the fastest cars in my run group. The difference was incredible.
The good news is that the rainy day got me used to keeping on the throttle and catching the rear in a smooth manner.
Since that experience I have pined for LSD.

There are a few of us running around.
We have been getting the love from the Rain Gods this week, its been lovely.
I went out last night, drove about 35 miles towards a huge thunderstorm sitting over the Frankiln Mountains, near El Paso. Sitting at about 11,000 feet, dropping these huge sheets of rain, like black veils over the mountains. It was Wagner written large. The lightning was so bright it was like flashbulbs lighting the desert. But the whole way there, I was under cloudless skies.
Then I turned around and drove back, into a blood red sunset. The Dona Ana's were jagged streaks against the vibrant colors, orange to red, fading to gold and purples. Just a slight haze over the horizon, making technicolor streaks. Las Cruces has some pretty spectacular days, but yesterday was great. I only needed the lights for about the last 5 miles or so.
Got home and the engine sounded so good, I could hardly stand to turn it off. I stood at the back of the car, thinking about ways to record the exhaust note. Almost painful, turning the key in the doorlock and going inside.
I do love my car. No other car could make an hour seem like an instant and a lifetime at the same time.

I have LSD on my car and I only launched once hard. It works great! It helps out the most in the rain. There are lots of curves where I live so it's really a help.
