Post Header mock up material??

posted this on the NA list only got 2 answers but not exactly what i was looking for.

I thought that theres something that people use to mock up headers. I want to say its some kind of bendable tube. cardboard comes to mind but that cant be right. anyone have any suggestions?

Check out Summit Racing and do a seach for "Hooker Headers". Look for their straight and mandrel-bent tubing. These are 16 or 18 gauge mild steel and come in different diameters -- perfect for prototyping.

I haven't done this, but flexible metal electrical conduit or flexible gas line. The gas line should allow a tighter bend radius. But I don't think it's readily available in large diameter sizes, so you may have to account the smaller diameter when checking clearances

Go to Meijers or Autozone, get some flexible exhaust tubing. I used some flexible hose from a vaccume cleaner, it doesn't hold the shape though. Good Luck

Whatcha doin'? If you need a mock-up of a header why not use the existing header for clearance dimensions?

cause it from 931 and its a damn block of iron. and no one makes headers for a 931 and the turbo is on the same side. basically have to figure out how to make a 951 header go the opposite direction, clear the crossmember and then the exhuast pipe come back under it.

How about building it in place with small sections of mandrel bends tack-welded together? That way, when you're done with the "mock-up" all you'll have to do is remove it and finish weld the joints.

You can certainly do it with stainless mandrel bends. I'm guessing here, but I'll bet thats how Turbo Tim built that crazy 4-1 header. when you're good at that method, it can have a very seamless, smooth form.
