Or is he talking about the $1500 block he is trying to sell you.

If you are spending that kind of coin, contact Chris White or some of the other vendors on here. $10K is crazy.

The block I bought to replace my cracked block arrived cracked. My mechanic had one in his storage unit and he wants to charge me $1500 for it.

Are you filing a claim with the shipper?

Yes, a claim has been filed by Lart and he has refunded my money. Lart is a stand up guy.

Dang - there are too many nice 944 turbos for sale for cheap to put too much $$ in repairing one.

Is that $1500 for a short block assembly or for a bare block?

And is that 42 hours just to assemble the long block? I'm no professional but that strikes me as alot of time to assemble a motor? What all does assembly include ?
If that's blueprinting and balancing then maybe but...

Just to make sure I am still up to speed on this one – The $1500 for a used bare block is from the same guy that blew up your old engine….? maybe I missed a couple of steps in all the posts but that still does not sound right to me.

Oh yeah – one constructive comment, for a street motor you usually don’t want to lighten the crank and flywheel. If you do that and use a performance clutch it makes for a set up that will like to stall at every stop unless you rev it and slip the clutch just right.

42.45 hours to rebuild an engine…..if that’s just the time to build the engine then at that speed the R&R the engine from the car must be over 100 hours!

"blew up you engine" is a little strong. it only had less than 50k on the block and developed a cracked cylinder wall when all the goodies were installed. Apparently age and metal fatigue is a bitch (according to some posters)

Ok guy something is wrong here, I'm nobody and 42 hours struck me as..excessive and Chris White, who is somebody is questioning the hours!
Sounds like you need to expand your horizons. Just saying.

The only reason I can see the hours being so high is they are quoting from the book...According to the book, a steering rack replacement takes 4 hours. As far as block price, I'd tell him hell no.

As far as the engine goes. At least from what I understand, he dropped off a running 951, the mechanic installed the parts, and then the block developed a crack. Don't see too much of that unless something went wrong...just sayin'.

I'd have him comp the block, since it isn't worth THAT much anyways.

I've always wondered if you could remedy that by changing when the fuel kicks back in on closed throttle. Thoughts?

Ok, got an update. The $1500 is for a block, pistons and rods. All stock 2.5 stuff. I'm going up there today to speak with him. I'm also discussing having a 3.0 liter built from a Rennlister, depending on the quote from them, it may be worth going to a 3.0 and having it installed.

CJacob, I think you need to run away from that shop. Seriously I think that guy is taking advantage of you and your wallet. You can see that even CW is shocked.
