Post Fluid on Clutch Pedal = ?

My regular mechanic says it's clutch master.
Dealer says it's clutch slave.
What say you guys? : )

Doesn't matter. You replace them both at the same time regardless. If one is going, the other isn't far behind.

Don't take it to that dealer for repair as they are morons. How can the clutch slave drip onto the pedal?

But a good idea to replace both at the same time. And try and get ATE components, not the crummy ***/FTE that seem to fail at an alarming rate within a short period of time.

It's the master. The slave is way underneath the engine by the starter. If one's going the others usually not far behind

I'd do both just to be safe.

I had the very same problem. Leaked so much before I bought the car that the carpet was ruined. It's definitely the slave cylinder, but probably good preventative maintenance to replace both.

Heh yeah I'd never take it to the dealer, let's see...

$260 labor to replace master
$500 labor to replace tie rod ends/alignment
$150 oil change

wow...

The actual master and slave. ATE is a big company that makes all sorts of products besides fluid. I know for a fact that they were OEM supplier to Porsche on many/most clutch hydraulics. You will not regret sticking with them.

***/FTE on the other hand ......

You got to ask and make it clear you are only interested in ATE. Don't ask me how I am so up on this. <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />

Maybe that's why the dealer charges so much for the master/slave hydraulics whereas they can both be bought for under $100 total from aftermarket suppliers: OE parts are ATE, aftermarket are ***/FTE -red boxes, right?
