Post Valve guides 1st ????

Hey its the rookie once again,

Ok I need to buy 8 valve guides for my 944turbo.
when i go check prices they ask me if its the 1st time.

What the hell does that mean?
whats the difference between if it is the first time or not?

I just sent my head for a valve job...I got charged 180.00 for the labor..i guess that a fair price.

What kind of valve job did you get? And where from?

Just like piston rings, valve guides come in different diameters.

If you have not replaced them before, get the standard set. If you know they have been replaced, or the seats re-ground, you'll want to go 1st over.

That's all. For what it's worth, the standard set worked fine for my rebuild.

if you already had the valve job done then you have a problem, if you replace the guides now, you will have to recut the seats. The cut indexes off the guide, if you put in new guides the seats will no longer be perpendicular to the guide and the valves will not seal. Sorry I just re-read your post, you are in the process of doing the valve job, I hope.
