Post Rear Hatch Leaks

Just curious if there is an easy fix for the rear hatch when the glass slips out of the frame at the top near the hinge? Is it as simple as removing the hatch, turning it over, using a few pipe clamps to apply pressure from the spoiler to the top, and then using some clear epoxy to seal and hold in place?

I had to have the glass cut out of the frame and then glued it back into place. They used a special cutting tool that went between the glass and the frame. The trick is not to nick the glass, it will crack if this happens. My local glass shop did the job. I took the rear hatch off the car and brought it to them. You have to look around to find a good shop that will be willing to try this job, it is no fun at all.

Same here. I had it done by my mechanic and he totally messed it up. The glass started to un-glue it self from the frame after 2 months. Then I went to the proper glass replacment people. They warned me there is 1% chance of glass breaking when they take it out but it didn't and the job was superbly performed. I paid $400 for the job.

$400??? wow... sounds like I need to start charging more! I just resealed a hatch for a guy for $100, and I am confident I did it correctly. Two tricks, #1, remove the glass without breaking it (no real trick there, just work carefully) and clean the glass and the frame thoroughly, and #2, use 3-M Window Weld adhesive and all the corresponding primers and cleaners that 3-M recommends.

Its a PITA job, but if you do it properly, it should hold for a long time.

Regards,

Thanks everybody for the feedback. Now that I know it can be done, I think I'll give it a try myself.

Scott, I was charged a little over $100 so you are in the ballpark.
