Where do the harnesses hook up to or do you need another bar for that?

I did not know of a U-Weld kit. I just looked on-line. I didn't like the current offset harness brace on the passenger side, wait, who cares.

Can you weld to the upper bar on the rollbar with the liner and interior trim pieces in place or just cover them in leather or something?

Are you looking to part with your u-weld kit?

Just found out the Autopower kit bolts to the floor in the front. I do not believe this is strong enough so I am back to the Safety Devices unit.

Thanks for your input.

Brian,

Sorry I haven't responded earlier. Only get to check the forums ~once/day.

The front bar runs in front of the dash air vent and straight down to the door sill. It does cut out some room to swing your feet in. Getting over the door bar, which is slightly higher than the edge of my Sparco seat also presents a challenge. Being tall sucks sometimes...

Unless your a-pillar gauge pod is attached at the bottom and forward toward the windshield, the bar will block the view of it.

I had my local mechanic install it. I wouldn't recommend them (actually, I stopped using them after the install). Most competent shops should be able to install it, but it takes ~10 hours or so. I know several people who have GT Performance (just north of Baltimore, so in your area) prepare their track cars and are happy with their work. Their number is 410-538-3400.

One thing to be careful of during the install. When welding in the front plates to the door sill, don't weld too much at once (weld one edge of the plate, let it cool, weld another edge, cool....). This can heat up the area and weaken the structure. The frame will then begin to droop in the middle. Ask the shop to use a door support bar if they have them.

Good luck,
Jerome

I used to have an Autopower roll bar, now I have the
SD cage.

The Autopower bar was fine for use for DE. It was
easy to install, well made, and affordable.

The SD cage is better made, it bolts to welded in
plates, and mounts to the sill, not the floor pan.

One thing about the SD Cage, unless you can weld,
you won't be able to install it yourself. I had a
welder do the welding, I did the final work.

Is it still true that a bolt-in roll bar like the autopower unit is all that's required by PCA for club racing?

Does anyone have a site for the SD unit? And Brian are you looking to part with your current bar?
