On another frontier, what camber are you running in the rear? I had a rub problem with my old wheels, increased rear camber to 1.5 negative and solved it. Turns out the change helped handling as well when I began Autocrossing...

I cannot understand how the offset could be so far off as I have seen 944t's lowered the usual 1.25" at DE's with 275 x 17" on all four corners and only minor neg camber with no problems. I would say whatever the offset is on the 993 porsche 17" wheel is what you need. These are the wheels I use on my with my track tires and there is plenty of room with 275'.

Hey Danno, would these numbers also apply for a turbo S? Or would they need to be modified because of the revised caliper/rotor issues:
For a turbo S.. is this correct?
FRONT
7":65mm (stock)
8":72.7mm
9"-10":77.7mm (2.5" coilover kit required)
10.5":77.7mm (fender rolling required)
REAR
8":60mm (stock)
9":67.7mm
10-11":72.7mm
11.5":72.7mm (fender rolling required)
Thanks for the info... this is really usefull stuff!

All of you have valid points. And yes, Danno I knew that doing something with the suspension is no the optimal fix. I'm not sure the offset of the wheels because I bought them used. The came off a Boxter and Porsche told me that they would fit a 87 and newer 944. This is of course true becuase after 86 they had higher offsets.
Anyhow, I don't know the cam settings so I'll have my mechanic look and see if he can make some adjustments. And you were correct in that there really isn't 2 inches before the top of the tire. This was a little exageration. There is probably 1 inch to the top of the tire and the the rubbing happes .5 to 1 inch into the sidewall.
All of the feedback (especially the long sermon on cause and effect complete with illustrations and all Danno) are appreciated. I'll let yall know what happens when my mechanic looks at it. Right now it is back at the body shop for some final touches on the Silver paint job. I'll keep you posted.

Aaron, could you also get us the measurements of your wheels? Like overall outside width and backspacing? Shouldn't take mechanic more than 30-seconds to measure. And what tire size do you have back there? I tried a 315/35-17 and they don't fit (needs 1" wider fenders).
Another possibility is somehow your car has some rear-wheel spacers. Maybe someone before had some brake-caliper clearance problems with non-951 wheels and used a spacer? Which should be taken off now.
Raagi, your numbers look correct. Those offsets may appear extreme, but more and more cars have them to package ABS and big-brakes. The Honda S2000 is one of those cars that needs 70mm+ of offset in 10" sizes, so more options are opening up. Anyway, you're looking at 3-piece wheels in those sizes anyway, like Kinesys, HRE, Fikse, BBS, etc.

How much work is required to go to -1.5 degress of camber? I'm taking the car to my mechanic tomorrow to have the oil changed and I wanted to wait. Plus I don't want him trying to charge a whole lot for a simple procedure.

well, you need special tools. Even alignment shops sometimes don't have the proper tools for these Porsches. I've got a shop I go to regularly. A complete 4-wheel alignment is usually about $100. With corner-balancing $200-250.

There's a shop here in Santa Barbara called Superior Brake & Alignment. The guy that manages the place is a really good racer with NASA so he knows "special" alignment tricks. They can also do wheel-balancing on the car to really get the perfectly smooth ride. Don't know about warrantees on the work, I just go back every couple months or so to get a new alignment depending upon the track I'm going to and the tires I'm running.
