Default worth buying?

Wanted to get more opinions before I invest into a 1989 944 turbo. The guy is selling it for 2500 with a few problems.

He says:

-that the car runs great but will need a valve job and cam gear to be reliable.
-it has 142,000 miles
-regular maintenance done last fall (2010) with some service files
-will let buyer smog vehicle
-timing belt replaced about a year ago.
-some crack in dash and seats
-New radio
- 9000 miles on zr rated tires

I own a 944 S myself but would like to know what the Turbo friends think about this deal. Any opinions and self experience will help greatly! THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I wouldn't go for it.

I'm sure you can find one for ~$6k that is in good shape, that will end up costing you less in the long run, or short run if he isn't telling you about other things wrong with it.

The only thing on the list that are "a few problems" is the valve job and cam gear. Most cars that need a cam gear won't start, let alone pass smog.

Better let me handle this one!

Lart- Do you own a 951 that you actually drive and enjoy, or do you just buy them to part it out?

yes for $1500 I would think it is a good deal. Even if you have problems, its not like it cost any more than a 90's tercel.

My money is on Lart. His reflexes are cat-like.

My prediction:

The C-list link was up at 10:20
Lart made contact at 10:22
Deal was struck at 10:26
Money was wired or paypal'd to the seller at 10:32
Downloaded additional pics from seller at 10:37
Uploaded some desirable items' pics for sale at 10:42
Cold drink was procured and partially consumed at 10:44
Posted back on this thread at 10:47

How far off am I, Luis?
