Default Great 951 weekend

...had a great weekend driving the car, with everything working. First wax job of new paint. Check.
Make the bumper pads and rear spoiler nice and pretty. Check.
Cruise works correctly. Check.
Air blows ice cold. Check.
Ordered Koni sports for the rear. Check.
Friend takes delivery of a new 2011 911 Turbo S. Dangit.

Hey Rick, yeah, he's been helping me on it...just knowing it'll be his if I don't crash it. I don't think I'll ever call it done, but it was kinda strange parking it in the garage, knowing it really doesn't NEED anything. I'm going try to limit it to a couple hundred $ a month in minor stuff. Now if I can block the "M-Tune" thread from my mind....

Indeed! I really don't plan on restoring anything between now and the fest. Except the new Koni shocks and a shift boot.

I wasn't on RL when I bought the KYBs, but lets just say "you get what you pay for". Free, low mile KYBs for the rear will be laying in the grass next to my car at Fest. Someone will take them.

Ted you going to love the Konis. I actually broke a finger when I was drilling the front cartridge to install the Koni inserts. But what a difference in handling compared to the Sachs.

man that's great Ted, my son has sure grown up around my cars. He's seventeen now and I'm thinking about moving him from his Volvo to a "toy" on this fall when he turns 18. I'm thinking about a used Mini Cooper S so he do some autobrossing and improve his clutch skills (primary reason he doesn't get to drive the 951 much .

Manny, the fronts are done. I didn't have any drama on the front koni install, but I very well remember watching my flesh come sliding up a #41 drill bit, from the back side of some aluminum skins when I was building my airplane!

Rick, its funny how our kids turn out MUCH like us. The boy played guitar at a gig until 9:30 last night, then spent 3 hours in the race trailer (motorcycle) working on his CRF250R.... like father, like son.

Yep! My plan is to keep an eye on M-Tune until the dust settles a little. At least until after the fest.

Wait

There's an idea! Josh brings a batch of M's and A's to the fest and then has an "install" area. He could solder DME's while the customers install the rest! I'd fall for that.

Was a good "pre 951" weekend for me! Got the newest Audi out of the garage (still needs some tuning and exhaust work), but for the most part I can now focus my full attention on the 951!

I know it's not 944 content, but it's still German!

Hmm... sounds like you need a big turbo and maybe a 3liter to run down your friend in his 911 Turbo S

Alex, I have always wondered where the 4.2s in my local pick and pull went. Those V8s are freakin huge, though it looks like it shoehorned nicely into that bay.

What did you use to shine up the bumper pads and rear spoiler?

Alex, that's sharper than what I thought you described at beer night! Nice

Scott, sometimes a man just has to admit defeat. In the same month he bought a new Cirrus airplane, and the 911TS. I think the 911 has 530HP, but there are very few people on the planet that have started in their garage and achieved his record of making HP, so that may go up. If I could just get him turned on by the 951, we could probably see some interesting stuff in the engine/head dept.

Derek, I've used back to black, and silicone from a tube, but I think my favorite is just tire shine (low gloss, any brand). I didn't even realize how many types of tire shine existed. There is extreme stuff that makes your tires look ridiculous (like wet glass). I'm sure there are boutique gummi whatever, but its something that I'm willing to do a little more ofter with the cheap stuff.
