This may sound stupid.....but, I've put a new motor in my previously wrecked 951 and all is going OK except that I can't find a good place to bolt up the big ground wire that comes straight off the battery. Can someone please describe where this is supposed to go. I didn't get to see it before the blown motor came out.

There is a connection for a grounding wire on the top of the block. It is next to where the idle stabilizer bracket mounts to the block. You should see a threaded female hole in that area.

Na.. that one has 3 grounds total that go to it. The large one from the battery, one from the DME harness, and 1 from the power harness. The bolt is only for the grounds, and is on the top rear drivers site of the block.

I haven't seen an '86 951 but the later cars also had a ground from the battery to the sheet metal in the battery box. You need that. But as long as the fat wire is bolted up to the engine block itself you will be OK there. It is aluminum, thick and more or less direct to the alternator.
In my headlight wiring kit I also put in additional grounds from the front of the engine block to the frame rails where the lights ground. Right under the headlight buckets. That alone increases voltage to the lights about 0.75v. Which is alot.
