I was wondering how much bigger of a difference a cat delete would be on factory 2.5 exhaust? Is it much louder? Does it sound ricey? I have a high mileage turbo, so Im thinking that it will help it a fair amount. thoughts/experience? Should I just save for 3" with a test pipe?

I replaced my cat with a 2.5" test pipe I bought from Pelican. From what I understand if you are not planning on heavy mods then flow is adequate with the 2.5" exhaust. I think this is a low cost power increase. Maybe someone else can be more specific about how much HP increase would be typical.

If your current cat is original, which means clogged up and worn out, then you should feel a performance difference. How much? Don't know. If the muffler stays in place, the cat delete shouldn't make much difference in sound.

People behind you at a light won't appreciate the exhaust smell, that I can tell you... I was sitting at a light once last year when a guy on a bike stopped behind me, and started frantically wafting his hand in front of his face once he stopped.
Poor bastard...

I think a test pipe is at the least the minimum exhaust upgrade, if you keep the stock muffler in place the exhaust has a deeper bubblier tone at idle and a deeper tone at speed. And no it does not sound rice at all.

Great advice! Thanks guys! We have no emissions testing, so I'm not too worried about the cat remaining in tact.

I have a used Bursch test pipe for sale if you decide to go this route. $200 + shipping.
I ran this for several years and it made a noticeable difference in spool up and while it's louder than with the cat in place I wouldn't say it is loud, it's actually nice to hear exhaust noises rather than belt whine and turbo whoosh
