This is an old thread that has been resurrected.

David: What has happened to your clutch? What specific parts of the 930 clutch fit our cars? I have heard of this in vague terms, but never had part numbers and first hand experience.

Jason said the 930 clutch disk is thicker and is a direct fit.

Clutch pedal would not release smoothly ( grabbing and grinding ) bought another new slave and installed it just to be sure it was not a hydraulic problem. I was able to get the clutch to work smoothly again but there is a noise in the bellhousing like something is loose and the flywheel is touching while spinning.

Just a bummer with the turbo problem on top of that.

Adrial and David, I am looking for the best clutch for my car also and from my experience I won't go back to a Centerforce. I put one in about 10,000 miles ago with expectations that it would at least outlast my stock clutch. The disc and pressure plate were worn severely with the pressure plate worn much more on the inside diameter than the outside diameter. I sent it to Centerforce and they declined to stand behind the clutch. Their reasoning was that they could not find anything wrong with the pressure plate or disc. My flywheel was surfaced on a flywheel machine and checked out fine.

Danno said there clamping force was 90% greater than stock, however Centerforce would not give me any specific torque holding capacities at any RPM. The way their clutch works is to use weights to increase clamping force as RPM rises. All of our cars make lots of torque down pretty low so I sort of suspect that mine was slipping all along.

I am probably going to give clutch business to Marcus Blaszak http://www.blaszakprecision.com/ as he provided cold hard clamping force figures and the pressure plate and disc combo is reasonably priced at about $558 CDN or $380 US. Marcus know our cars very well.

I had the same problem David. My clutch seemed to mostly disengage, but not quite. Ended up that one of the small springs in the clutch disc had broken in half and a piece was jammed between the disc and pressure plate. Real pain in the *** for a 3/8" piece of garbage. The clutch dish itself had life left in it. I went with a cup clutch disc.

And I was thinking Centerforce when I need a clutch. Now I am unsure make sure you guys post what you end up going with and how well they work.

My trusted mechanic (the one I post that I was happy with) either refused to install a centerforce in my car or just said that he's heard of too a lot of problems with them (I can't remember). I ended up going with a turbo cup clutch.

I'd be curious to hear more about the 930S clutch...

I have 10,000 miles on my Centerforce clutch, no problems so far. No noise, slightly lighter than stock pedal effort. Living in the Silicon Valley, 90% of my driving is in stop and go traffic (hell on clutches).

How you treat your clutch plays a HUGE part in its life expectancy. I do not drive wimpy, but I never do burn outs. I am very conscious not to ever slip the clutch during engagement.

The stock rubber center clutch in my N/A lasted 140,000 miles using this philosophy.

275rwhp and looking for 350rwhp.

David:

Bummer for sure. Sounds like your throwout bearing again or release arm. You are going to be an expert in clutches, unfortunately.

The 930 disc is thicker...wonder how much and if there are any issues with getting a full disengagement. The cup disc has treated me well so far, and the original one went 116k miles.

You coming to Barber anytime soon? The April DE filled up in 8 days! 175 cars in 8 days. I missed registration, but I will be working the grid. Did not even know registration was open until it was full. Maybe October.

I don't see any problem with a shop not wanting to let customers try supply there on parts. Part of the way a shop pays the bills is by making money on the parts. Also how are they supposed to provide a warranty on their work if you supply your on parts?

I sent the turbo back to Majestic yesterday for repair, my oil smoke problem was the turbo all along and it kept getting worse. I could move the compressor wheel enough to hit the housing

So maybe just maybe, I will have the clutch and turbo problems solved by then.

David Floyd,

Sounds like you got the same quality Cup Disc that I did. Mine went after about the same mileage. Did the posts holding the springs in place go on yours too? I'm getting a new one from Blazak Precision. I'm getting the Kevlar disc material. I can't comment on the quality of his product yet but so far he has been really good to talk to on the phone. I believe he charges about $200 US for a disc provided you send him your old one. Going with Kevlar adds about $30 US. Definately worth checking out. Anyone else here using one of his discs?

*lol* Guess it helps to read the second page of a thread to get the whole story. At around 2000 miles I had difficulty in getting into or out of gear. When I pressed the clutch pedal all the way in I could feel a pulsation in my pedal and hear a slight "tick tick tick" sound that was in time with the pedal pulsation.
