Another idle issue - very rich stumble when cold
OK - I did a lot of searching and learned a lot of good stuff for diagnosing the issue. Unfortunately, the few items I've tried haven't gotten me anywhere.....
Issue: Running CRAZY rich upon start up. Give it some throttle....and it looks like you're following Cheech & Chong!! Once it warms up....car runs fine. Highway driving seems fine.
What I've replaced:
- TPS a couple years ago and that fixed the hanging idle
- 02 sensor and I passed emissions (though on the upper end) just a couple months ago
- DME temp sensor. Replaced this today....no change.
- 3.0FPR is 1 year old
Should I:
- put the stock chips in and see what happens?
- drink a few beers, put the cover back on the car and forget about it?
So.....what else should I be looking at? I have a short fuse for this issue and I'm ready to bring it to a shop . Anything else I should look at before I open my check book?
Thanks

Burning Brakes
Well, even though today seems like a flame day on the forum, I'll venture a couple guesses. First, why a 3 bar regulator? With stock injectors thats a recipe for rich. You say some mods, but my Jedi mind powers are weak. Have you tested the fuel damper for a blown diaphram?

Check your engine temp sensor and it's wiring. Check the resistance and voltage at the DME connector.
The sensor can be fine, but if the wiring can still affect the readings at the DME.
A bit of info will help in determining what to look for next.
Have you verified your fuel pressure?
Is this something that started happening recently?
How do the AFRs look like when the engine is warm/hot?

Fuel damper - have no tested or thought of this
Grounds - not a bad idea!!!
John:
- Yes, this issue is new....though I rarely drive the car so it's tough to tell. I have not verified the fuel pressure (been meaning to get a gauge on the end of the fuel rail.....). I also have no idea what my AFR looks like. The only reason I know it's rich....is because it smells like fuel and smokes like crazy!!
Once the car is warm, I can rev all day and not get any bursts of smoke like I do when cold. There is a veeeery slight hunt in the RPM at idle....but I am talking 20RPM, maybe 30RPM. I can hardly tell if the needle is moving....and at that maybe it's a ground (as it picks up like it has a bad ground from time to time).
Thanks again guys, and hope you're having a good day!

Is there a way to test the fuel damper?
Which grounds should I clean? Where are they?
Also - once warmed up, I disconnected the ISV under the intake manifold (unplugged it). No change in idle. Does this tell me something??
The AFM door also seemed to come right back when the car was running. I took off the filter and put a screw driver in there to open it up. Seems OK.....but again I am not sure the 'proper' test for this.
Happy holidays!!
