Unhappy clutch overheat?(I hope)

So ... somebody tell me that the clutch on an '87 951 can be overheated enough to allow slipping in 1st, 2nd if you slip excessively off the start!

My buddy drove my car the other day(I know ... I know ... but he spent 7 hrs under the car helping me fix it ... so I figured I owed him)
and he slipped the clutch on a launch ... and the clutch would slip all the way through 3rd with no effect. So we drove slow around a parking lot for 2 minutes ... and everything was fine. So ... tell me I'm not going to have to spend another full day under my car replacing the clutch!

Yeah, with the torque in these cars, it's possible to completely wear out the clutch with a single slipping launch (smell nice ). I've also completely worn out new friction plates in the limited-slip diff in a single track session...

Hmmm ... fortunately we did a rear drive study at work and a few guys there have changed this clutch ~10 times. Nothing they can't do in ~4hrs with a lift, forklift and 3 people.

Now ... what do I bribe them with .... ?

If the clutch is at all dead ... wouldn't it be slipping in regular use ... like with that insane on boost pull we get in the first, well, 5 gears or so? So what is a good clutch upgrade when the time comes(cup car, etc?).

Cup clutch is good, Centerforce is better. . . Lindsey uses Centerforce in their race car, IIRC.
