It puts out pulses as the trany rotates. You might see it with a fast DVM but a scope would see it. I would just replace the thing, they are always breaking on me. You just have to bump them and the top pops off and it is toast.

tested the wire at the connector. everything is in check. i pulled the actual sensor. it looks brand new. the needle, should it have any vertical play. there is no side to side.

Not sure of the routing layout.
At the connector
pin 1 green/white is switched power from the central electric board
pin 2 blue/red, connects to the gauge cluster
pin 3 ground wire
i would check for voltage and continuity at the connector first. If the wires are good, it is either the gauge or the sensor. I would suspect the sensor first. Happy hunting.

There is continuity from the sensor to the corresponding wire on the cluster, so that is a good sign. I would assume all the wiring is good at this point.

It will only sends out pulses when the wheels are turning. Another option:

also my speed and reference sensors dont quite look like that. they sit flush on housing. how do i adjust the clearance? the car seems to running well. but for future references.

The bracket pivots and that sets the clearance. Clarks has a write-up.
See the brown wires at the right of the picture. They are the main engine grounds, take them off and clean them up.
