I am sure the bolt is not coming off. Yes I tried to loosen it to the left (facing the bolt).

Just for a bit of background info on the car... I bought it from a local dealer who bought it from this person who put a history of the car and rebild on cardomain, here is the link:

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3333063/1987-porsche-944

I bought the car and was told the following were fixed... water pump, timing belt, head gasket, clutch, thermostat, rollers, front engine seals, and oil cooler seals.

I do remember seeing some of that milkshke on the coolant cap a week or two agowhen I openend it up,it was a little bit ad I wiped it off and it hasnt come back. Could that be from before the head gasket was done?

One other thing, I noticed my oil pressure guage is always pegged over 5. I didnt pay much attention to this because there are a bunch f dash lights on (air bag, seat belt, brake pads, and !) also the fuel guage doesnt go up all the way so i figured it was just not reading corretly. Every oce in a whileit will erratically drop to 4.5 and rise back past 5. The car drives fine so I didnt think much of it.

The oli pressure sending switch is bad, or wired wrong. Flip flop the wires. If it doesn't fix it, it's bad. DO NOT BUY THE CHEAP ONE! if you have to replace it. They fail very quickly and are a waste of the 30 bucks. A new one is between 110 and 150.

Try giving the wrench handle a few taps with a hammer or mallet while the socket is attached to the drain bolt.

if were talking oil pressure sending unit, its located right above the power steering pump on the passenger side. since the car is jacked up, take the right tire off and you can see it clearly through the wheel well.

its a cylinder shaped unit that has two wires on it covered with rubber boots.

where are you located?

My oil pressure guage is pegged as well...when it warms up it does go a bit below max...Not something I am worried about as pressure is good...it will read zero when the key is on and engine off

Just to make things crystal clear: Left loosey, righty tighty = Counterclockwise rotation of most bolts (there are some left hand threaded bolts/nuts here and there, but nothing we're talking about yet) equals loosening, whilst clockwise rotation equals tightening.

Go ahead and hit the oil drain bolt with a liberal coating of your favorite spray (WD-40, 3:1, Liquid Wrench, etc), let it soak for an hour or so, hit it again, let it soak, then use the correct socket to loosen (counterclockwise). If you end up damaging the bolt, get a replacement. You should get a replacement seal with your filter (Mahle), if not ask for one or get the correct filter.

Directly below the filter.

as long as it moves as it should. Once the oil is up to temp, it should show a lower reading than 4. However, that's only when the oil is at temp. If the needle pegs at one extreme or the other, the sending unit is bad.

Before you go any further is the car safely supported on jack stands with solid blocks under the tires?

chrenan, good catch! Doc gave some good ideas on tools (above), but lets start with making sure you have the basics.

1. Floorjack.
2. Jackstands.
3. Drain pans.
4. Shop towels.
5. Disposible gloves.
6. Trouble light. (I have all kinds, but I really like my LED, strap on my head device)
7. Torque wrench.
8. Big bottle of anti-seize.
9. Spray bottle of 50-50, acetone and trans fluid. (Better than PB, WD, etc)
10. Small fire extinguisher.
11. Brake parts cleaner, purple power, etc.

There are tons more tools and supplies needed, but I wouldn't start any maintenance without most or all of these.

Let us know what type of tool you're trying to remove the drain plug with.

The gloves may be a little mamby-pamby, but for 951 money I play in an office. Hands look like hell, anyway.

my car's oil pressure gauge used to peg, then it started giving me weird readings, so I replaced the oil pressure sending unit and all is well.
