Default Is my flywheel reference sensor trigger screw in the wrong place?

Hi,

I just got my flywheel off the car and when comparing it with a lightened flywheel I picked up, I notice the trigger screw is in a different place when I line up the OT marks on both wheels. I also noticed the crank trigger screw can be set in two places on the flywheel coming off the car and only one in the lightened flywheel. The flywheel at the top is the lightened one and the bottom one is the stock one coming off the car. Am I dealing with an N/A wlywheel or something? Thanks.

-Nick

It looks like the stock weight flywheel has been modified for more ignition advance. That’s the only way to get more ignition timing outside of chip mods.

This trick has been used in ‘stock’ class club racers for years……

^+1

But it's a stock class! No one makes any changes

Wow, thanks for the info guys. The modified flywheel coming off the car also has holes drilled in it to bring the weight down. So theoretically how has this modification been affecting me if I'm running vitesse stage 2 chipboard?

More ignition advance and higher risk of detonation. I'd say you're very lucky if your engine hasn't detonated to death!

Then I guess I'm lucky my throw out bearing failed so I could discover this!

Yes you are lucky.
Count the number of starter ring teeth between the original set screw location and where it is now, then we can determine how many degrees it's off.
Did you notice a "different" running Idle?

Idle seemed ok perhaps just a slight hesitation. I'll let you know once I get the car back together how driveability is affected. Here is a pic with the starter ring. Thanks for the input.

No you just have the 4 & the 5 reversed.
2 teeth off = ~5.4 deg. Or maybe I need my glasses and more coffee!

This morning it looked around 1.6-1.7 teeth off, maybe I just need to upgrade my glasses

EDIT: Wrote degrees instead of teeth by mistake.. More coffee needed indeed.

Now we are getting technical
Without exact measurements, it's impossible to tell from the picture. Now that I look at it again, it's less than 2 teeth off, so it can be >1.5 & <2 teeth... so let's say [>4 & <5.4] deg off..

It's morning here more coffee for me too!

Funny what racers will do!

I thought that most of the folks from Georgia were a lot more than two teeth off…..
