Not a great idea to mention "high maintenance costs" in a car auction, but that doesn't appear to have hurt the sell price much.

I love white 944's... drool...

There is just something wrong about writing the price and ‘6 speed’ on the window of a Ferrari. Scribbling on the Maserati is not too cool either….!! That just doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzy feeling about the dealer.

i bought a 1988 Turbo S in August of 2008...paid 18,300. Had the exact some mileage. I knew it was a lot then, but its worth it.
Although today i think i blew a turbo seal!

Good cars bring good money. Bad cars water down the market and there are alot of ratty cars out there.... we all know you will either pay upfront or pay far more down the road trying to make a bad car good....

+1. Pay now or pay more later. How many posts talk about how much was spent on the low cost car to make it right and how they wish they had bought a better example to begin the process because would have cost less in the end.

90% of these people are talking about the cost of performance parts while and ignoring obvious maintenance.

If people left the car stock i doubt we would have as many "ratty" cars running around.

Although a beautiful example, that car being a 220 CV version with over double the miles (60K) would probably net it less than the 250 CV S in the OP.

Australian market prices tend to go higher than in Europe and the US, though.

How's this for expensive:

I got mine cheap in 2005. The only mod was a K&N filter. Needed lots of love, but I wanted a project, anyway.

A few observations from being a lurker for years on here:

1. 951s will need maintenance, and very little of it is cheap, unless you do it yourself. Still won't be cheap, just cheaper.

2. There have been 6K cars that needed very little in the first few years, and 10K cars that needed lots.

3. PPI's make the buyer feel better, but original clutches don't really give a countdown to a 2K repair bill. They just go when they feel like it. And that isn't the only large ticket item that might surprise the buyer of a cream puff.

4. A good purchase or deal is when the purchaser is glad he bought it. Some buyers are miffed that they only got 4K off a new car sticker, thinking they left a hundred or so on the table. Some buyers pay sticker, but get free floor mats and a useless extended warranty thrown in, going on and on about how they screwed the dealer....

5. A 951 purchase is like having children. You and wife are educated, well mannered, responsible, and have never been arrested. Kids come along, with one being #1 in their class at Harvard Law, the other stinking up your basement, getting to level 20 in WOW, and showing off the new tats, while bitching about the inability to find a job.

Congrats to the seller. A car is only worth what someone will pay, and evidently someone wanted that exact car.
