This seems to be an extremely common problem with these cars. I have a new reference sensor harness, as well as new wire connectors on the sensors themselves. After all that I still have to wiggle the wiring sometimes to get it to start. My next idea is to either:

1. rig a cable through the firewall and attach it to the wiring, which would facilitate the "wiggle" procedure without having to get out and pop the hood.

or

2. hard wire it so it doesn't use the sensor when starting the car.

We should do a group with "wiggle" cars and the first one of the group that replaces, the AFM with a MAF or Map should let us know if it still happens!
I 'm out for a while still chasing down leaking Hydraulics in the clutch system...sigh.

The "wiggle" and "bad AFM" are two separate issues here....

Swapping in a MAF setup most likely won't cure the need to have to jiggle the reference sensor wires. To eliminate THAT issue you'd need to go to a standalone setup.

Mostly likely...but it might!
