Post 86 944 turbo wheel problem!

I have an 86 944 turbo (early offset 23.3mm), purchased a set of wheels from a 1978 911SC, for DE use. Wheels size front 6Jx16 rear 7Jx16 wheel number 911361020 with a square stamping on the end of number 43, there is also a stamping of AS10.62 and FCO. The wheel rubs on the caliper on the front, so I assume I need spacers, what size?
Thank you all for your response.

Gerd:
As a fellow '86 951 trackster, I had to cringe at your posting. Now that I instruct in DE for a few regions here in the northeast, I hate to see others make the same errors I did or almost did. If you follow the Rennlist postings, you'll see that most folks are bending over backwards to see how BIG they can go with wheels are tires. Since about half of the 951's ever made were '86, there's been lots of info here on these pages, and there are usually web sites or Pano and Excellence to steer you to dealers.
So in general, why would you want to go down an inch in wheel width? Stock for the 951 is 7 and 8 x 16, and most of us try to go to 8's all around to get started, or 8's and 9's x 16. And these can be had for less than a grand, in track condition. A more serious setup could take you to 8 and 1/2 x17 up front, and 10 x 17 in the rear with tire sizes of 245 and 275, especially if you are willing to roll the rear fender lip[. Otherwise stick to 245's on 8's or 9's, they work fine and give minimally faster acceleration ( smaller diameter).
I'm not familiar with the stampings on your wheels, but all true Porsche wheels have the offset stamped in them somewhere, I'm told. If indeed the rear offsets are 62mm, you'd need at least 30 mm spacers, about as extreme as most of us consider safe for the track. And more spacers for the front. Spacers in these widths list for $200-$250 a set, so you'd be in for about $500 of spacers, plus work to make wheels that are really too narrow work.
I'd say chalk it up to a bad idea, sell your wheels, and hunt the mart listings here or on other region web sites, find the right wheels for your'86 and be happy. There should be lots of 16's available, because most drivers are upgrading to l7's. And most of the listings here have said that 18's are a mistake for the 951.
Good luck.
