Hey again. You have to send LR your head for them to do the solid lifter conversion.
Thats what I did and it is also posted on their web site under the solid cam section

if not, then i guess i can buy a cam for the stock head....if that head is even usable...i will check in the garage today.

If I understand correctly, you are pulling out your 3 liter motor, and planning to install a spare (original) 944 turbo short block. Right?

You say you think the head from your 3 liter was a 2.5 head. I can think of two ways that might be true: 1) lindsey modified the water passage on a 2.5 head to fit a 2.7/S2/968 (104mm) block for your 3L motor, or 2) your 3L was built on a block that was originally a 2.5 and then sleeved to 104mm to make it a 3L. Do you know which it was?

Re the head, if you have it handy, take a cell pic of the front water passage -- or just look to see how many M8 bolt holes it has. If only 1, then the head is set up for a 2.7/S2/968 block and will not fit on a 944 turbo short block (i.e., a 2.5L block). If it has two holes for the front water passage, then it is set up for the 944 short block.

As others have said, you can eliminate virtually all potential for mismatched parts if you use factory parts for now -- a 944 turbo head, cam, lifters, cam tower, cam gear, etc. Then you can sort out a new 3L without the down time.

Regarding the 3.0, you may want to check the rods after this incident. Very unfortunate. Good luck in the future.

so i pulled the 3.0l out today.....prepped the bay for 2.5l short block.....open the crate that i never even opened last year(bought SHORT block W/88K off ebay last year but decided to get LR built 3.0l instead).....ITS NOT A SHORT BLOCK...JUST A BARE BLOCK!!
so i start prepping/cleaning this bare block....and realize if im going to build a motor then it might as well be the 3.0l!!
will strip the 3.0l this week....order rebuild kit/gaskets....and build my first motor.

here are some poor pics of the block....the head is already cleaned up when i thought it was just blown hg gasket...and the pistons.

when i was pulling the pistons out, one of the rings got stuck or something and scratched the #4 cylinder.....there is a mark on the piston from the ring...hope i didnt ruin the piston!

if more pics needed/wanted will take some more.

I feel your pain. I'm going through a very similar thing, but mine has to do with #2.

Time to start the process of measuring the bore. Any machine shop can do this. If there is a problem, the block can be bored or mid-sleeved.

Sorry to hear / see all this. The whole situation seems a little odd if you ask me. Not sure that you need to be totally wed to the solid lifter head. Really, unless you plan to rev
the new 3L out to 7500-8000rpm on a regular basis (which will need some much lighter than stock components) then it's mostly overkill.
Get some pics of the head that came off your 3L motor. Also some pics of this 'bare block' that you bought.
Put all your stuff in a pile and then figure out a plan. You could easily buy a cheap spare stock 2.5L to keep you going for now while you build up another 3L. Then either sell it (2.5L) or keep it as a spare when the 3L is ready to go in.
