Clutch Job - Resurface Flyweel?????
Ok Gang,
I have just pulled the clutch out of my Turbo S. I found that all of the "little" springs were fine. Only problem was that plate the holds them on to the clutch disk was completely broken off. All the springs had gotten lodged into pressure plate. They were not doing damage it looked, but the metal plate was the thing I heard rattling around everytime I engaged the clutch.
Also noted a bad bearing in the torque tube and a wobble in drive shaft. Time to replace that too I guess.
Anyway my question is this...
..... Resurface the flywheel or not?
Pros? Cons?
Right now it is still in the car.
Car has 116k and I plan on keeping it for a "long" time.
Thanks

Resurface the flywheel and pressure plate (if you are keeping it). This way you have a fresh surface to start from, and you can have them balanced too. You'd hate to put it back together and have clutch chatter.
There was a recent post on the main forum about this very same thing.

If you want the max life out of your clutch job, then resurface it. It cost me 80$ at the best machine shop in town. Get a new pressure plate, preferably one with higher clamping force(you won't regret spending the extra dough). If you buy all the stuff from Paragon, you'll save 200$ on the upgraded pressure plate(400$ with clutch package). I love mine, haven't spun the clutch yet or smelled that smell.
