Post soon to be 944 turbo owner with questions

I have been looking for a 944 for a while now. I have just found an 86 turbo with 68k on it and just had an all new block put in it (this was a OEM crate motor)Reason for this was last owner somehow let oil get very low and toasted the motor.
Is a crate motor from porsche good? bad?

Im going to look at it next week and just wanted to get your thoughts and any ideas what to look for. It does have the orig. r12 for ac.

Is this a good idea to upgrade this? What all is involved and about what would cost be to do this.
If the ac works fine as is...is there any reasons to change it over?

Oh yeah.....this is my first time posting here. You guys seem great and hope to get to know many of you....Thanks

You might want to change over the AC... its not expensive...cost you under $100 to have it done. not too sure about that motor, but im sure someone more knowledgable will respond shortly. You might want to post this in the 924/944/968 room... it gets a LOT more traffic.

and by the way, let me be the first to welcome you!

Leave the r12 in until your a/c no longer cools then change it over. Compressors that originally ran r12 were designed for it. I converted my Eagle Talon and it does not seem to cool as well any more. My Porsche was already converted so I don't have a before and after frame of reference. I read somewhere that the new refridgerant is harder on older compressors(please correct me if i'm wrong).

A 68k car with a fresh block sounds pretty nice to me. Make sure you see the receipts.
