Hey Lart, that's actually copyrighted material that belongs to John at Vitesse. How about dropping him a line directly, I am sure he'd be happy to help you out.

He will help out to the tune of $250 if you bought it used.

It sounds that you work for free! Well at least you expect others to work for free!

Lart, just sell the SMT6 and tell the buyer that he can download the SMT6 Windows manual and the SMT6 developer manual from the manufactures web site and spend many days trying to connect and program the device to a 944

OR

He can pay a fee and get all the diagrams and specific data for software registers for the 944 along with Johns famous anytime-anyplace support. That price is about 2.5 hours of labor at most Pcar shops and I for one think it a good investment when playing around with a >$2K engine.

No ofense, so the power perfect smt6 works with vitesse software only, how about if someone wants to use it on a ford or toyota do they need the vitesse software or can they use the stock software?

Copy right is just that, you can NOT copy it without permission from the owner. In the normal case, you pay for a service and get paperwork that is copyrighted to protect the originator from someone else coping it and selling their work. It takes time to modify a product to get it to work with a car so that is part of the deal, a product and a service in one fee.

The generic SMT6 works with lots of cars, you just have to invest the time to read and understanding the manuals. I do believe John has a version of the SMT6 (different color box) that has his unique software rather then the manufactures software.

So in a few words if anyone buys it is obsolete, because they would need the vitesse software to use it right?

Your going to get me in hot water with John if I f...k this up but here it goes. The picture looks like the older SMT6 with the Perfect Power software in it. It will work with lots of cars and has the Rs232 port included but I don't see the shorting plug to bypass the SMT-6. That can be purchased separately from the manufacture. One thing to note, you will need a USB to rs232 adapter to plug it into any modern computer. They must still use RS232 in South Africa were the SMT 6 comes from.

So, you can sell it as a general SMT-6 unit and the purchaser can download the windows software and manuals from the manufactures site...the web address is on the label.

Or

If you want to use it on a 944, tell the buyer to contact John and that will save them time and maybe an engine rebuild.

My guess why it has John web address on it...try calling South Africa for service and see what you get. Here is the contact info:
Address:
DDS Direct 22 Arbeid Avenue
Strijdom Park
Randburg South Africa
2194
Telephone:+27 (0)11 792 9805

John does answer Email faster then any vendor I have worked with.

So to be clear if the guy who buys it from me wants to install it in a 951, he can contact John and he for whatever his fees are can help him, correct
