I have 175,000 on my N/A. Still have the original head gasket. However a friend of mine has an 87' 951 that has well over 200,000 miles and STILL has the original head gasket.

Christian

And yes, he constantly checks his Plugs, fuel pressure, vacuum, and changes his oil every 1,500 miles.

Nope, sure haven't. Not sure if the previous ownder did either. Should I dial it in with the Huntley chips? Or should I abandon ship with them and look into chips from someone else?

Know of anyplace near upstate NY where I could get this done?

IMHO, call Danno and order his chips.

I'm sad to say I blew my headgasket. Had the car for 3 days and a combination of unplugged wastegate and water in the intake did her in. Doh!!! My fault though....should have been more thorough in my check of the car.

Now improved with the guru all metal headgasket. Guranteed to be bomb proof. He he hee...at least that's what I'm hoping.

Talking

Only two times, both for playing with the MBC. I'm running a wide-firering headgasket for more 30.000 kms and still playing with MBC.

If the head gasket goes due to engine problems, it has probably saved you from a more major problem. Every extra psi of boost makes it more and more necessary that everything be perfect on the car. I haven't done a head gasket yet, I am sure its a royal pain in the posterier, but there are worse possibilities....

I think you'll find some varying opinions on this...but if the headgasket is "bomb proof", my opinion is that it will still blow before the rings or pistons. I would think that you could burn up a valve before that even happens though. Hard to say, but like Danno said earlier....tuning is your friend. Head gaskets are just there to give you a bigger margin for error when you first tune the air/fuel mixture. A proper mixture won't cause problems.

My car has gone through two! Not with me at the wheel though. Both times the wastegate hose came off (no hose clamp was on it ) and when the PO shifted and stomped it again, his thoughts were 'this is going to be expensive'. Good for me though! I check the hose from time to time now - it's a fairly important feature - the stock injectors just can't keep up with 25 PSI boost spikes!

I have blown to head gaskets. First the stock headgasket because being stupid I decided I wanted to see what my car could do with more boost and blew it. Then I blew a widfire head gasket but that was not because of boost issues, the mechanic decide to let intern of his do the job and he used gasket sealer which he wasnt supposed to do and the gasket did'nt seal right. The gasket was sticking out the side of the head. Which really isnt a blown head gasket but it was a really big leak and the mechanic had to pay for a Porsche Dealership to replace all my hoses and pull of the head again and check for damage and clean many parts & replace & install another gasket for FREE. Which I am sure he wasnt happy to get that bill. I just wonder if the kid still has his internship...

Which is a good reason to have a certified Porsche mechanic do the work and make sure to have the intern stay away.
