Question Cylinder head removal question

Car was misbehaving this morning so I decided to pull the head and see what is up.

How does one remove the exhaust headers?

I have removed all of the nuts/bolts from the headers but am unable to figure out if they can be removed without lifting the cylinder head.

The workshop manuals seem to indicate that the header pipes come out with the head, while the haynes manual seems to indicate that the headers come off first.

If someone who has done this and can provide a tip it would be most appreciated.

or, you can pull the studs, and then the headers... but that's a royal PITA.
