Unhappy What did I break?

Haven't driven the car for about a week... took it to work today. On the way home, I began accelerating WOT in 2nd gear... at about 5500 RPM there is a loud wooshing air sound coming from under the car and I lose power.

I know it has something to do with loosing boost pressure out of somewhere... I assume the wastegate.

What I don't know is if one of you guys have had this exact thing happen and can save me some time. The car runs OK otherwise, just suddenly losing LOTS of exhaust from somewhere around the wastegate at about 5500 RPM.

I have it on ramps and am now just waiting for it to cool down before I go inspect the damage.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I would suspect more likely one of your boots on the hard pipes that connect the inter cooler to the throttle body and turbo. Check for loose hose clamps, look for tears in the rubber and don't forget to feel the under side for tears.

Possibly one of the intake hoses coming off.

Probably the rubber intercooler boots, as suggested above. Same thing happened to me, same symptoms. In my case it was a loose clamp at the exit fom the turbocharger; this faces the most heat stress, and is also the hardest to get at!

Ah... you're so right! Thanks for the help guys, just went back out and felt my way under the outlet boot from the intercooler... when I squeezed it I could feel a crack on the underside of it.

An issue that doesn't cost much and is easy to fix...

Phew!

Thanks Again Guys!
