Speed sensor question.
Hey all,
Is the speed sensor on the '88 S or '89 run off the ABS system, or is it still in the trans? The reason I ask is, I saw a guy in European Car swap a 968 driveline into his '87 951, but the speedo quit working because of the different speed sensors. I was thinking of finding a 968 6-speed gearbox to swap in if/when I find a good 951 to buy.

All years of 944 run the speedo off of the transaxle. However, it is easy to get it off of the ABS unit (on cars so equiped). Someone on the e-mail list has done this. Check the e-mail archives.

What about moving the speedo sensor from the 951 gearbox to the 968? How about the oil-pump and cooling loop? Someone once mentioned that the 951 gearboxes without the oil-cooler can't be retrofitted because the fittings for the pump don't exist on the gearboxes without don't come with the pump as standard equipment. Don't know about the speedo sensor mounting on the 968 6-speed.
