My car started to puff white smoke again. I hope is not my head gasket. I need any sort of hope or encouragement, sometimes I just want to give up, and buy a 993, but I love the 951 I am just madly in love with this car.

sounds like a familiar tune sauerkraut

motor goes in sat. morning.... hopefully i'll be able to actually _drive_ the car some time soon

oh and btw after taking the old short block out it appears it was indeed rod-bearing #2, i am thinking the previous owner totally screwed me, and just had a friend at the shop he did the work on the car and we got the PPI from write up a bunch of stuff.... i'd talk things like law-suit, etc, but i'm not a vindictive kinda person. (after doing some more research it looks like he, possibly unknowingly, sold me a car w/ 167 not 67000 miles on it... ugh)

so just a lesson to those of you looking to buy a 951, LOOK HARD AND LOOK LONG AND DON'T SETTLE FOR ANYTHING BUT PERFECTION UNLESS YOU WANT A PROJECT ON YOUR HANDS. as much fun as i've had working on this, and as much as i'm excited about how quick it's gonna be, if i could have done it again, i think just cuz of the stress alone, i would have just kept my acura and been happy with a car that with a few more bux coulda ran 13.5-13.8 in the 1/4 and still handled amazingly w/ the suspension i'd put on it (Tein HA coilovers, basically, a japaneese circuit-racing-spec damper with 600+lb springs). *grumble* and i haven't even begun to work on the suspension of my 951.... someday... it _IS_ only money (keep reminding myself that) <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Danno,

Here is a link to the fiber articulating boroscope I will be buying. You can connect video to it...

This is about the highest quality available...

They range from about $2400 on up. That's a lot, but they work great!

The non-articulating and rigid ones are only $1500...

Any time you're dealing with a used car you're entering a crapshoot to some extent. My 951S checked out really well, and we didn't find the trashed cylinder wall til I went to have the hoses and seals replaced - we pulled the head to proactively replace the gasket and voila.

In my case, it looks like damage from a broken ring. However, the ring is intact, just scuffed. I suspect someone had a lean episode or something, trashed a ring, and then popped a new one in and sold the car. Maybe the PO, but could be the guy before, no way to tell so it's moot.

I thought about selling or parting out the car, but figure it's a keeper, since it's really hard to beat for overall performance. Still the bill's killing me!

yeah, i think this guy spun a bearing, said screw it, put it back together w/o really fixing anything.... cuz my #3 wall is HOSED. i think it's really unethical of anyone to do that kinda thing, but **** happens. not everyone believes like many of us that you should adress problems not symptoms (funny cuz danno typed that in another thread, and it's always been my motto when fixing my car etc).
