Post manifold instalation question

I was wondering if its possible to reinstall the exhaust manifold on a 86 951 through the top, it was removed to be rewelded and I would like to find out before I go ahead and get it welded. I removed both pieces since the 1-4 couldnt be removed alone..Thanks...

Sure you can! Much easier to remove with the head. If you pull a stud or two from the head, you should be able to install the headers easily. I've seen people wedge and pry them in with crowbars, 2x4s, golf-clubs, etc. I suspect this is where a lot of the cracking comes from... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

OK..not exactly what I was hoping for..was trying to keep the head in place, maybe even the cam housing..would it be possible to reinstall with these parts in place?

You can install the headers with everything in place. When you go to install, you'll find that there's a stud or two that gets in the way. Clamp some small vise-grips on the smooth part of those studs and remove them. The headers will then drop into place. Re-install studs and tighten everything down.
