3.0 Turbocharger options
Hey everyone, I am currently undergoing the ultimate rebuild (3L) and am trying to figure out what the best turbo would be. Now, having boost kick in a couple thousand RPMS sooner would be great, but I want this car to have bigger ***** than a figgin elephant! I guess mainly, I am concerned about all out power. And also, what do you guys think about running my current HR stage4 MAF on this motor?

Check with Turbo Tim at www.speedforceracing.com he has some VERY LARGE turbo's.
Some sort of stand alone system will most likley be a good move.

Turby,
The motor on my 3L turbo is being installed today. I went with the Garret 60-1, stage 3 #8 otside ... seems to be what people use on these engines.
I have upgraded from a stage 4 MAF to a TEC II. I will let you know how it all plays out next week.

Beab,
The TO4E with 60 trim is only going to support about 380-400 at the wheels on a 3.0L at 18 psi or so. Ask me how I know;^) If Tecart wants more then that, he will have to go with the 60-1 or something even bigger.

If you do not mind my asking, what are you doing with your stage 4 MAF? Send me an email if you would be interested in selling it. Thanks.

I noticed that you are in the Boston area. You may want to cantact Jon Milledge (Marshfield, MA)as he builds complete race motors for these cars. I cannot tell for sure, but it looks as though the yellow car on your signature is a turbo'd 968 that appeared in Excellence some time back. If this is the car, Milledge was hired to build that motor. From a 3L motor w/8 valves 500 H/P is well within reach. With a 16 valve motor 600+ H/P with moderate boost well within reach. Best of luck.

I have heard of that guy, and I think even read an article or two on him......my motor is bieng built by two guys localy I luckily stumbled into a few times and finally let them do some work. They are two independants who built thier first 3L in 92' and have been driving/working on 951's exclusivly since they came out. Yes in 86'. They have since become friends of mine, and do all the work basicly for fun. It seems they also have the 88 951S (silver rose)market cornered up here.........They have FIVE. Boggles the mind huh?

Brian,
Yes, my clutch problem was resolved. I was, an still using a clutch from Worldwide Motorsports (Woody Weiss). The clutch turned out to be fine (not even completely lapped in. The problem was the arm for the throw-out bearing. I was using a pressure plate from a 935 and to fit the bearing, Jon had to remove some metal from the arm.

I replaced the pressure plate with a unit from K.E.P. Coincidentally, they are 10 minutes from my home. So, KEP pressure plate (stage 2 w/2800 lbs. clamping force) and a clutch from Worldwide Motorsports. No slippage, yet. Just a little tough on the street. By the way, Centerforce said they do not have a unit currently, that would hold.
