And what's a good size for the shims? I saw the set that was included in a Guru chip upgrade package but can't remember anymore...

Hmm..
With higher exhaust pressure the wastegate will open up "earlier" won't it?

On my car the boost drops to around 0,6 bar at redline!
So the question is, will 5mm shimming be enough for my car if I'm aiming at around 1,0 bar?

Or do I risk overboosting with more shimming?

i had Travis measure my boost on a stock 944t last year, and it's about 14 close to 15. now is it safe to still shimm the gate or not?

you had 14 psi on a stock 951? I thought it was set at 12?

I have read that if you go over 5mm shims you can bind the spring in the wastegate. So i saw don't go over 5mm.
By shimming the wastegate you will just help it hold up to the exhaust pressure. This will help in holding higher boost at higher rpm.
But you will still have control over boost via the MBC. The only thing you can't do with a shimmed wastegate is lower your boost under about 10-12 psi i think.

Can someone post a picture of a properly shimmed wastegate? I know there were some in the older posts but they've been deleted.

Thanks
Ron

Guys, if you want to shim the wastegate leave yourself plently of time! I've seen posts by some saying it takes 20 minutes, but don't count on it...

Today I spent a solid 3-1/2 hours just removing the damn thing, and my body is aching after quite the extreme workout! The 20 minute estimate must include only the time it actually takes to put the shims in (after removing the wastegate)!

I need to buy some new exhaust seals in the morning, and will then attempt the reinstall. Not looking forward to it.

Ron
