Post 80% leak down !! Whats up ???

Since I sprung another oil leak at my last track event, I thought I better check my cylinders for blow-by. The compression and leak down were as follows. #1-#4 compression 115/95/100/60. Leak down 80%/5%/5%/80%. The car recently had head work ! Did my mechanic make a mistake or is this for real? The car was running real strong, and other than the oil leaks and oil consumption under boost, everything seems ok. What should I do?

ugh, that sounds horrible. Typical compression should be 135-150 across the board with less than %5 leakdown. I'd take that head off and look at it.

David,

I hope that he made a mistake because those numbers on the leak down are very very high. Good luck in finding out what is going on.

On a side note, were you in your car on I-77 yesterday, I was driving down to Charlotte and saw 951 that I thought might have been yours going north near hendersonville.

Yesterday, I drove I77 to Mooresville. Must have been another nice one. I guess I'll start planning to remove my engine and freshen things up. Time to locate any and all info. Please e-mail me with any tips or instructions. Thanks !!!!!!

Just a suggestion:

Before pulling the engine apart, do the leak down again and use a stethescope to listen where exactly you are loosing your air. Thsi may help you pin point your problem area.

You can just pull the head to inspect first, doesn't take too long.
