Post clutch died...help!

I was driving the other day, and I noticed a slight vibration in my clutch pedal. I also found that I needed to depress the clutch right to the floor in order to change gears. The problem progressively got worse, until I could barely pull the car out of gear with my foot planted on the clutch pedal!! Now my car is stuck in gear, doesn't matter if you push the pedal in or not. If I crank the car over with my foot on the clutch, the car jerks forward...ie. it's still in gear.

I'm thinking hydraulics...master or slave cylinder. Anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like hydraulics to me. Look for fluid leaks by the slave. This would indicate the slave is going. Could also be the master. For the trouble, you might as well replace both of them.

If it was the clutch disc wearing out, it would disengage too quickly when you step on the pedal, not stick all the way to the floor.

yeah i reckon hydraulics. my slave cylinder crapped itself about 2 weeks ago, seemingly overnight. luckily the car was parked at home. symptoms - i could press the clutch all the way to the floor, and there was no resistance. and then it just sat there. i say 'press', it's more like i could nudge it past the spring loaded point, and it would just flick right to the floor.

I had the same problem once, good fluid level and no presure in the pedal or clutch at all, and it was the clutch operating lever (951-116-085-00 $325). I only noted it was broke when the clutch housing was disassambled.

Thanks for the replies. Yah Mike, how about them Canucks!! Too bad about their brutal game 5, but I'm confident they'll play a lot better in Minnesota tonight. All the way baby!!!

Slave Cylinder. Bleeding is difficult if you do not have an assistant. Get one!

Have fun.
