It will be worth the wait.
Please remember, there are 2 distinctly different types of maf kits. Those that actually read the signal and directly interpret the voltage and those that try to emulate what the afm signal would have been. I have not needed a piggyback for mine at all due to proper coding.

The only reason I can see needing a pb is if the injectors are not calibrated to what the manufacturer claims. Even then I'd imagine that a complete scaling with the fqs would take care of that.
