Why use the 993 BOV
I've read about several people using the 993 BOV as a replacement and am curious about the advantage over stock or other aftermarket recirculating BOVs.

it is put together better and will last longer. the disphram rates are similar so it wont affect the air cut off effectivness... also, everyone should use the updated dme relay from the 993 because it's also much more rugged and has an identical pin out.

The 993 BOV is now listed as the updated part for the 951. I haven't cut one apart but it is my understanding that the only difference is the diaphragm is metal rather than rubber - the old rubber one would tear and leak after a while.

The 993 bypass-valve has a diaphragm that's brass in the center, but the outer 5mm or so to allow for seal and movement is still thin rubber that's susceptible to tears over time. If you're going to be buying a replacement, might as well get the Forge or Baileys valve.

So with 130k miles and the original BOV, I should probably consider upgrading?

Who sells the Forge and Baileys? When can I research them?
Has anyone who has tried the Lindsey unit offer feedback on it?

If you have the original BOV I can guarantee it is shot. It is easy to check. Just take it off and suck and blow on the fittings. If air passes you have a hole in the rubber.
If Danno says the 993 ones also have a rubber component then we probably will run into failure again sometime down the road.

I also have the original BOV on the car... how much should I be paying for a 993 BOV? Can I simply grab one from Vertex or a similar company? Also - can I expect to be able to fit it with "amature" mechanic ability?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I think it was about $30 from the dealer and was actually a couple bucks cheaper than mail order. One of those very unusual situations you sometimes encounter.
Very easy to install - all you need is a screwdriver. I think a 5 year old could do it in 5 minutes

I have a 993 and there is something DEFFINATELY wrong with it. I have a buddy making an adaptor to use an eclipse unit.
The valve in the 993 unit wobbles too>... ?!?!? where as the DSM part is STIFF and only moves straight, up/down

I've got one of the Stratmosphere Forge Valves that I'll sell you.
I just bought it and it's in perfect brand new condition.
I ended up going with the Turbonetics Godzilla valve setup.
This Stratmosphere valve is trick for sure and will barely fit into the stock location.
It's black and looks pretty much stock. All metal valve inside.
I just paid $149 for it.
I'll sell it for $100 to the first buyer. (plus shipping of course).
Here's a pic off their site (mine is black not polished).
