Question Passing emissions tests in DFW, Texas

Anyone Texas based 951/944 owners out there having trouble passing the new emission tests in the DFW, TX area? What are you doing, how are you passing the test? Spending the $100 and getting the exemption?

Any advise / encouragement would be helpful.

My '86 951 passed with flying colors in April BEFORE the new regs went into place. My dad took his 924S in last month with the new regs in place and he passed as well. I really don't think the test is that difficult to pass. Of course this assumes your car is in good running shape.

On the exemption, as I understand it, you have to put $400 (not $100) into repairs AFTER you fail and BEFORE you can APPLY for an exemption. The repairs have to be emissions related and an attempt must be made to correct the problems (sorry, a new Stage II MAF won't cut it). I think the key word is going to be APPLY.

A couple of quick suggestions, run some Chervron Technoline (sp?) the week before. Run Chevron gas (it burns cleaner). The emissions are lowest when the engine is warm and the cat is working.
