Porsche 944 Turbo, Weight, Power?
I'm in search for some answers and was wondering if you could help me? I drive a 1996 SVT Cobra Mustang and my buddy has a Porsche 944 Turbo. Anyways two days ago we took our cars out on a deserted road, and ran a few runs against each other, and he completely stomped me. Are there any power differences between the years of the 944 Turbo? About how much do these cars weigh? I believe he told me his car was an 86 or 87 944 Turbo? At the time of the race he told me all he had was an intake and exhaust upgrade, however the way he was pulling on me he must have more. My buddy with the Porsche uploaded videos of the race on a website called svtperformance.com under forums. My Cobra is completely stock other than a air filter. Other than that I have new respect for Porsche!

96SVTCobra,
A stock 86 944 Turbo puts out 220hp (183rwhp) and weights 2,800lbs. That puts it at 12.8 lbs per horsepower.
Keep in mind, with minor modifications the 944 Turbo can get drastic increases in HP.
With a chip and an intake (MAF) 275 to 320hp (272RWHP)is easily obtainable. So assuming your friends modifications are giving him 320hp, that is 8.75 lbs per horsepower. Not many road going vehicles are obtaining these numbers.
Not bad for a 17 year old car!
If you wish to improve your chances against the 944 Turbo, try a standing start. The turbo does not have the off the line, low end torque that your car has. But with a rolling start from 40mph on......plan on looking at a lot of "TURBO" badges that live on the rear of our loved 944's.

Mike you are so funny!! Didn't think you were going to come on rennlist and ask questions about these cars. What you didn't believe what I told you? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> My car is a 1987 944 Turbo and for a list of my mods look in my signature. Anyways give me a call tonight.

Mike, do you have a link with the HP ratings on the late model stangs? I'm out of the loop on which are SC and which are NA. I see some of them are around 400hp.
My estimate on his 49k car is around 2900-3000 and about 300hp at the flywheel (maybe a bit more). My 86 with similar upgrades made 248RWHP or around 290 flywheel.
Oh, And don't race Dan's 'other' car when he get's it done. Not.. gona win.

Thanks boostguy.
But aren't there others that are SC? I thought they were doing that for a while.
I followed one the other day just to hear his exhaust... Sweet...
