Quick spool turbos?
Blueman33 originally posed this question on the performance mods forum, but I haven't seen too many responses on it and I'm kinda wondering too.
Question is - what's the quickest spooling turbo upgrade out there for the 951? Something that will deliver a little more than a K26/6 but spool up as fast or faster.
I've seen the ads for turbos from various tuners - does anyone have one that would be willing to share whether or not they like it and at what RPM they typically see full boost?
Danno, Derrek, Tim, and others - feel free to respond if you want to offer a solution.
TIA

Our stage I Garrett goes ambient (makes it first PSI of boost) at 1800 RPM and make 15 PSI threshold at 2800 RPM. I have yet to see a faster turbo that can still make 450 crank HP.

I think there was a fix for that oil problem though. Check some earlier posts, I beleive john anderson and speedforce were producing oil restrictor holes that prevented the massive pressure/volume that was entering these turbos and causing smoking.

Thanks Derrek - what about your "Cheater Stage I"? Would you mind sharing where it starts to generate boost and where it will make 15 PSI?
TIA,

Dwayne,
We have a new dual-ball-bearing turbo(We are the only company that I know of, that have a direct replacement dual ball-bearing unit) that spools up faster then anything you have ever seen.It competely blows away the sinlge ball-bearing turbos that Turbonetics and others are selling. However, these turbos are not cheap. They also contain a built in restrictor to prevent the turbo from blowing oil like there is no tomorrow.

Coolhand:
The Stage I will hold 27 PSI to redline.
Dwayne:
The Cheater Stage I will go ambient at 2400 RPM and make 15 PSI at 3300 RPM and will hold 14 PSI to redline. The Cheater II will go ambient at 2700 RPM and reach 15 PSI at 3600 RPM and hold 16 PSI to reline.

One more oil smoking question: If I remember correctly, Garret did some turbos for Ford engine's right? Is any engine working under 4-5 bar oil pressure without disaster? Maybe thats why all those Sierra and Escorts blew up?
I never heard any problems with kkk units!
kind regards Frank

( so 450hp under PERFECT conditions ). This would require crazy boost, and that would reqiure aLOT.
I would rather make 450 crank hp w/ a larger wheel at closer to 20psi <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> .
ask derrek if it has even been done, than ask for a chart.

Do I get that right - no one of you is interested in tuning that will not be the beginning of the end of engine life?
oil restrictor holes : Who can tell that this update will not have a bad influence of Oil- or Watercirculation?
How many of you did end up with blown engine after updating to other turbo than KKK?
Please do get this right, I'm looking for power but I am not interested in rebuilding the engine all the time!
kind regards Frank
