Think I prefer the smoother look of 968 handles on my car, but I would like to try these VW pull handle as my fingers always scratch the paint behind the current 968 handles

ramius, I'd love to see the diy, this is something I'd be interested in too. I also don't like 968 handles on 944s. Well actually I don't like 968 anything on a 944.

Well, no promises yet but as I'm fond of saying, "it's not rocket surgery." I should have all of the materials together in a week or so and it should be fairly apparent how difficult it will be then.

Those aren't VW Mk2 handles. They look more like corrado door handles or VW Mk3 handles to me...

The Mk2 handles are substantially the same as our stock ones in appearance...

If we could get W123 Mercedes handles to fit, nobody would ever need to replace a broken door handle ever again. With some black paint they'd look similar to those vw handles.

Anyway. The passenger door handle on my '84 was just about to break so I took it off and in lieu of this mod becoming ready, I am putting on a spare script handle I had in the garage. I want to do the driver side too, but hopefully I can order vw handles before I get around to just slapping in the script one. I hate how often these crappy handles break.

Prototype handles work, now completing the design to retain central locking. This certainly isn't a DIY project...

Also, these handles will require zero modification of the factory locking parts to use.

A few pictures of the prototype handles. All mechanical locking mechanisms work, now working the central locking solution.

The stock lock cylinders drop right into those door handles?

With the stated goal of zero modification to anything from the factory, we've spent quite a bit of time ensuring that the factory lock cylinders drop right in. You can take them straight out of your existing handles, put them in these and then swap them back.

OK, DIY on this ASAP!! My passenger side handle is on its last leg. Every time I open the door with it, I am amazed.... And now the drivers side is fading. Its getting looser and looser.
