With a cone filter you would have to drive into deep water or have the filter placed down close to the ground to have a chance of getting enough water sucked in to cause damage and/or hydro lock.

Worst case you will get some water mist into the filter.
I have my filter right by the insanity triple sucker. I have issues with the MAF getting wet if it is raining really heavily and the filter media is soaked. The car runs fine on closed loop but when I get on it it stumbles due to a bad MAF reading. It dries up in about a day if it is parked.

When I look at his pic, I pretend I'm seeing a robot standing on teeny, tiny, itsy, bitsy, skinny legs.

My car ate a bird once.. flew right in front me and got jammed into the inlet pressed right up against the IC didn't realize it until it started to stink up the garage and some feathers made it's way into the engine bay... You'd be surprised how big a bird can fit in there if you hit it at 75 miles/h

I had that happen too but on the radiator. I noticed it when all of a sudden there were a ton of flies that came out the front of the car when I walked up.

You have pics of that triple sucker??

I have had some slight hesitations like you describe but also like you only in very heavy rain. But it usually clears up fast and never needed to allow anything to dry.

Never any issues with puddle or anything like that.
