Default my 3.0 variocam is now available for sale.......

March/April 2012 (update from original post).

hi you all...

my engine/core is available for sale.... (i'm calling it a core because it's getting on in years, and it's a good time to do the rod bearings/oil pan/pickup tube refresh...)

i have a very good running 968 engine w/ 157 k miles (like 95% highway miles all it's life... i also use it that way). it is my desire to change to V8 power.... hopefully this coming June to pull the engine and get started..

... i would sell this engine if i received a reasonable offer. i have a guy who's very interested, but he might keep his 944 stock to be able to race with other 944s..... in any case, if i am successful in finding a buyer, i will be sad to see it go.

counting the oil removed from changing the filter (i change the filters at 1/2 intervals between oil changes). i would estimate that it burns about 1/3 of a quart every 8~10 k miles between changes running synthetic oil... frankly, the lack of oil consumption amazes me. i'm wondering just how far this engine could go after doing the rod bearings (which should be done at least once)....

i would conclude the core would be a good candidate for complete rebuild and/or turbocharging

it had the complete 100 k mile service at 114 k miles.

i figure) this engine can be tracked/d.e. after

1. change to the late 968 rods and new rod bearings (it may actually have the late rods already since the changeover to the beefier rods occurred sometime before this car was built)

2. clean oil pan/new pickup tube/o.p. gasket/

3. all timing system (including cam chain and pads /H20 pump and related parts) have 43 k miles so this round just the belts... and they will be done by us the moment the engine comes out....

4. cap/rotor/spark plugs/hp spark plug wires done @ 128 k... (would be a good time to change the plugs and distributor rotor)....

5. rear main seals.

this engine comes with and extra spare spare clutch w/ only 47 k miles (car still has original clutch at 157 k to give you an idea about how long 968 clutches last !! clutch jobs on 968s are only a few hours)....

optional work that can be done:

complete valve job/head refresh w/ new seats, guides, surfacing, new valve springs, lifters, retainers, etc....

track or street, this engine pulls very strong, and we can do a run to 140 mph in 5th gear or something like that...

make reasonable offer and she's yours....

od.

open pipes system w/ slp loudmouth resonator and rather very large magnaflow. quiet at idle, and sounds really good at wot.

Van stood behind it.
