Default Sound deading material at the foot-well

Hey Guys
Is it just my car or is this common amoung all our cars
The material is like dried out clay or asphalt tile and just cracks. Behind that is a lump of cotton flannel insulation....
Porsche doesnt carry this part any longer (probally all dried up and cracked )
Any suggestions ? That Dynamat stuff is pretty expensive ... Is that a good substitute?

Add that to the "things that smell funny" in my car list. Mine looks similar, no idea what they were thinking, but perhaps a Pep boys/etc has a cheaper but decent substitute?

I would love to just put a membrane over it and leave it The question is, what would stick on that ?

A cheaper option than dynomat is to use jute from a carpet store and cover that with a heat barrier material from Lowes. I don't remember the name of the material but it has reflective backing and is used in attics as a reflective heat barrier.

5692T61 seems like a slightly better fit (skinned, 1/2", little cheaper) to what the OEM is. I was going to suggest spraying a rubberized coating over the stock stuff but for that price I'd try the stuff on McMaster-Carr.

Good find. I didn't think to look there before I replaced my carpet. I order from there weekly it seems. I stll have the factory insulation in the front and over the wheel arches but not under the seats or behind the back seat floor boards. I may redo that at some point.

Hi Scott
I have to order stuff from them ( alternator duct ) so I may get a couple of feet ..
I will go with the 1/2inch I guess as if its to thick its worthless. I dont know how malleable this stuff is ..? I have to worry about that abs box (that I removed before I took that picture) fitting in there.

I will let ya know how it works out when I get it
