Default rear hub won't spin (RESOLVED: Stage8 bolts too long!)

I think I'm stumped. A little background - this started off as what I thought was a bad rear axle. I had some serious vibration one day when I had the gf and dogs in the back, figured the extra weight was exposing a wear point on the axle. Couple days later I started getting the usual "bad axle clicking" from the rear, so I ordered a new axle.

When I tried to install the axle, the wheel started getting really hard to turn in between applications of the parking brake while torquing the axle bolts. Eventually I couldn't even move the wheel, even though the brake was off and trans in neutral.

So I took the rotor off, thinking the parking brake was stuck. Still won't turn. I'm able to move the hub about 90 degrees using a breaker bar on the axle nut, but when I do this there's a bad scraping sound and it won't turn any further. The scraping noise is coming from the hub area and not the trans.

I was thinking a bad wheel bearing, but there was absolutely no play when I checked it and I never had the usual hum that goes along with that. Any ideas?

Hmm, are you sure the internal parking brake mechanism is releasing? Otherwise would seem to be a catastrophic failure of the bearings which is kinda low probability.

would the parking brake keep the hub from turning when the rotor is off?

The bolts for your CV axle are too long... I had the same thing happen to me.

Yep - Stage 8 bolts. I just added another spacer under them, and they are fine (thick washer or two will work). Only the drivers side was a problem.

Glad I wasn't the only one who had those bolts be too long.

Since I don't have those bolts, I was scratching my head trying to figure out what the problem could be and wasn't coming up with an answer

Rogue - so you just put a washer under each bolt? I had a clearance issue with the stock moon plates and had to leave them out, so I'm not sure that would work for me. With the moon plates on, the locking washer was right on the edge of the CV flange.
