Great video...

I say Scott's got a little edge on HP in that .... uhem... spec class.

The other thing to notice is the continuous sawing on the wheel. By the looks of it they were not running power steering.

I don't know what Porsche club track days you race in....

I race in the POC red run group. It's all-out racing. There is zero holding back.

The only difference is if we cause contact through driver error... we get put on probation. Do it again and you're on suspension.

Yeah...

It's called the "Give-a-**** factor".

The Give-a-**** factor theory dictates an inverse relationship between how much you give-a-**** about car and how fast you drive it.

:-)

Big difference when you're paying the repair bills after you back it into a tire barrier.

The other thing you notice about the race is that they are not going all that fast. It looks like mostly a 3-4 gear track on a 250Hp car.

The sound is misleading.

Spec tires were full slicks for the series.

Sure seems that way. Many of the passes are made down the straights, and looks like more like a hp advantage than exit speed alone.

Gets down into 2nd in quite a few corners. 2.5 mile track, a little over 1:50 lap times, so a hair over 80mph avg lap speed. No, not a high speed track.

Still.. the bumper car scene at the start is insane.. NEVER would I treat my car to a race like that. Strictly fun sweetheart driving for my "full race" setup.

Does anybody know the spring rates run on these cars?

All the 87+ Cups and Escorts ran the same progressive wound springs front and rear. The Canadian and Euro Cups used the Bilstein struts and shocks, US Escorts used the double adj Koni.

There is some debate/disagreement as to the actual spring rate range of these progressive springs. Fronts are often stated to be in the 180-410 lb/in range. I have seen the rears rated as high as 400+, but more likely around 200-300 lb/in range, used in conjunction w/ 25.5mm torsion bars.

Those rates look to be far lighter than what I would have thought based on the amount of body roll I could see through Scott's in-car camera (looking at the cars directly in front of him).

I run a 450lbs/650lbs setup (front/rear with no torsion bars) and it's very soft on the track running R compounds.

Here we have separate meetings for the racers group so there is no race group at our regular track days (doesn't everybody here know how it works in Sweden??? )

I was thinking on the amount of contact not the all-out driving. I don't think that much contact would be appreciated even in the race group, at least not judging from the races I've seen that are pretty clean.

My thinking as well, those rates sound very soft if running on slicks.
I run 684lbs/912lbs on R-tires and that is not considered very hard.
